With just one match left in the 21st round of English Premier League play, odds are already available on who will win the league. The favorites, after a controversial victory over Newcastle United today, are Manchester City Football Club. Here are the full list of betting odds:
Besides laughing at the misfortunes of Manchester United this season, these odds remind us that it's interesting that City are such favorites to win the league, despite being the only team in realistic contention to still be playing in four competitions, with the Citizens still fighting in the Capital One Cup, FA Cup, and Champions League to go along with their Premier League schedule. That type of fixture list can be daunting, regardless of how deep their squad is.
Then there's the fact that City just aren't a very good road team, as they illustrated today in a 2-0 win over Newcastle in which a beautiful Newcastle goal was disallowed on a terrible call by the officiating crew. The goal would have evened things up at one goal apiece and, with Newcastle outplaying City for much of the match, could have swung things in Newcastle's favor for good.
What this all comes down to is whether or not City can put together a consistent string of results away from the Etihad Stadium, which they have done over their last five Premier League road matches, in which they have not lost. If they can keep that up, they'll be golden but, with road matches against Spurs, United, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Everton still to come, that's far from a sure thing.
