Hopefully this is the only time that I ever acknowledge a Darren Rovell story, but here goes. A guy bet $100 on Auburn to win the national championship back in January of 2013 at 500/1 odds. If Auburn beats Florida State tonight, he'll be $50,000 richer.
Mark Sikba, the oracle/luck sumbitch who made the wager, told everyone about it a month ago when it was announced that Auburn, college football's team of destiny this season, would be playing for the national championship. Despite suggestions from people to hedge the bet with a hefty bet on Florida State in order to guarantee himself some kind of money, he has decided to let his original bet ride, even with Auburn entering the game as a 10.5 point underdog.
Personally, I wouldn't hedge either. Clearly SEC Jesus (Tebow?) is on Auburn's side this season, and there's that whole elephant in the room about how Florida State hasn't played anyone tougher than perennial chokers Clemson this season while Auburn defeated the top two teams in the SEC this year in back to back games. Props to Sikba for letting it ride. I hope he's rewarded with a $50,000 win.
Win or lose, this guy certainly got his money's worth.
